The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has announced a change of plans with the State Highway 114 project, now proposing to start on culvert work the week of June 16 on the north end outside of Pope County. Read on for more details from MnDOT:
As crews continue to work on entrance pipes and ditch cleaning along Highway 114, they are also looking ahead to next week and, weather permitting, plan to start on the centerline culvert replacements. There has been a slight change in their game plan for this work: they are going to begin north of Highway 27.
There are two pipes located between Highway 27 and I-94, referenced as “Pipe 12” and “Pipe 13” on the map shown below. After they finish those two spots, which will take 1-3 days for each location, then they will jump back down to the south end of the project to “Pipe 1” and work north back to Highway 27.
For residents and local traffic, there will be a hard closure at each pipe, and you’ll need to find an alternate route around the culvert site where the crews are working. You may have to come from the opposite direction you’re used to taking, depending on your location and path of travel. That will vary and change as work continues from culvert-to-culvert.
You can ask the workers on-site too if you have questions! They’ll know where they’ll be located each day and when they’ll be wrapping up at each site.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation!
If you don’t have a destination on Highway 114, please continue to use the thru-traffic detour on I-94, Highway 29 and Highway 55.
Local traffic should always slow down—please remember you are in an active work zone, even in areas where workers aren’t present. The culvert sites throughout the entire project area are currently loose gravel, so please drive slowly while approaching each one.
Please stay alert for heavy equipment and trucks hauling throughout the entire corridor. Thank you for staying committed to safety for all!
