The Pope County Board of Commissioners shall conduct a public hearing on and consider a proposed ordinance at its regular meeting on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 9:00 am, or as soon thereafter as the matter can be heard, in the Courthouse Third Floor Boardroom.
The proposed ordinance is designated as Ordinance No. 202601, which if adopted would retain the existing firearm limitations in place for deer hunting in Pope County. The proposed ordinance, if adopted, would continue the limiting the types of firearms that can be legally used for deer hunting in Pope County to those allowed by state law during the 2025 firearms deer hunting season, including legal shotguns (with or without rifled barrels) loaded with single-slug shotgun shells, legal muzzle-loading long guns, and legal handguns. The proposed ordinance would continue to prohibit the use of other firearms, such as rifles, that have been prohibited during the firearms deer hunting season in Pope County to date through 2025. The proposed ordinance would be effective for the 2026 firearms deer hunting season and for future seasons unless amended or repealed.
The draft ordinance may be viewed on the Pope County website at www.popecountymn.gov under News and Announcements or by viewing it here: Draft Ordinance No. 202601.
The public may also view the draft ordinance and offer written comments on it before the date and time of the hearing by submitting them to the County Administrator’s Office in person or by mail at the Pope County Courthouse, 130 Minnesota Ave. E., Glenwood, MN 56334. The public is also invited to attend and offer oral or written comments before the Board at the public hearing.
