The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has featured Pope County’s recently-completed, award-winning road project on County State Aid Highway 17 in a cover photo on the agency’s 2026 Highway User Tax Distribution Fund report.
MnDOT’s report prominently displays a picture of the roadway within the now-completed South Lakeshore Drive project as it passes the lakeshore between two rows of retained trees along the roadway.
The featured cover photo highlights the reconstruction project on County State Aid Road 17 that was awarded 2024 Project of the Year honors by the Minnesota County Engineer’s Association (MCEA), which recognized the project for its unique design characteristics, design innovation, environmental considerations, community relations and public involvement, construction management and project scheduling.
