With Minnesota Winter here again this week, February 3rd through the 9th, Pope County Emergency Management provides some important safety reminders for the public when significant snowfall occurs.
Consider these safety reminders:
- Make sure your vehicle is prepped for winter driving conditions.
- Make sure your emergency kit is in your vehicle.
- Turn on your headlights when it is snowing.
- Always take the extra time to slow down.
- Don’t crowd the plow.
- You can check for current road conditions by going to 511mn.org.
Remember, you can expect the following when 2 to 5 inches of snow falls:
- Travel delays, severe during any rush hour.
- Accidents and spin-outs
- People driving too fast for the conditions
- Plowing and road treatment
Prepare for significant snowfall by doing the following:
- Pack a winter supply kit that has warm clothes, cell chargers, water, and a flashlight
- Give yourself extra time to travel and consider changing your travel plans
- Fill your gas tank, ensure your lights are working, tires have good tread and washer fluid is full
